HISTORY
Pure Science, established in December 1995, was the brainchild of Jungle Jim. Already running the successful Heat events, Jim saw a gap in the market for a weekly drum and bass club night.After a couple of smaller events on the hallowed D&B grounds of Hastings Pier between 95 & 96, Pure Science eventually found its home on Sat 22nd Feb 1997 at the infamous Atomics nightclub on Hart Street, Maidstone.
It became not only the biggest weekly D&B event in the UK, but one of the longest running drum and bass club nights In the World !
Each week the club was packed, week in week out, with 1500 ravers dancing to the likes of Andy C, Shy FX, DJ Hype, Grooverider, Brockie, Mampi Swift and Randall and singing along to the rhymes of Stevie Hyper D, Skibadee & Shabba, Det and GQ to name a few.
Many of the current big names in the scene cut their teeth playing, or raving, at Pure Science. Andy C was famously quoted as saying that Pure Science at Atomics was his testing ground for his freshest dubs!
All good things come to an end, and in 2002 Atomics was sadly sold off for development. The Pure Science brand was sold off to the owners of Maidstone venue , The Loft, where they had a few spin off events, but with their efforts focused elsewhere the PS parties went quiet.
In 2009 Paddy Piranha & Jungle Jim stepped in to regain control of the brand under the new event company Friendly Piranha
Pure Science came back in a big way, selling out many events at M20 in Ashford, The Loft, and SOS in Tonbridge. In 2012 Pure Science linked with Jungle Fever at The Coronet in London creating one of the most talked about moments in D&B history… The Stevie Hyper D Hologram Experience! 3500 ravers literally had the roof falling in and trending on Twitter !
2013 saw two mad street parties, with Andy C playing outside in the snow, Dizzee Rascal gracing the stage with Mampi Swift and David Rodigan tearing the place a new one.
In 2014, linking with Andy C & Ram Records they sold out the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone, and celebrated their 17th birthday in style with Goldie B2B Randall, plus Sigma playing the week of their first No.1 single. Priceless moments of Pure Science nostalgia.
The same year Paddy & Jim amicably parted ways. In stepped Richie Weaver, long time resident DJ & good friend of Paddy. Together they’ve been pulling out all the stops to take PS from strength to strength.
The following years saw Paddy & Richie host Pure Science parties at Wonderland, The Loft, The Front, some crazy all-day events at Egg, London. They even flew DJ Hype & Voltage out to Ibiza for the D&B sessions at the amazing Eden Super Club in 2016!
In December 2019, they brought back Atomics for one night only, dressing up The Gallery club in Maidstone to look like the front of the raves beloved venue. They even went as far as to bring back the aeroplane seating that Atomic was famous for. Always going the extra step to make the party special.
With the closure of so many venues in the South East over the past few years Pure Science struggled to find a permanent home. They’ve kept the fires burning by hosting a stage at excellent Neverland Festival, and teaming up with The Garden Project and Andy C on the socially distant set of 2020.
After two sold out events at the Green Room before its closure we returned to the Source Bar for a special Easter party on 14th April 2022
Pure Science then took over the second arena at Revival festival in Mote Park for the The Atomics reunion on 17th September 2022 and absolutely smashed it out the park. Unfortunately the 2023 version was cancelled on the day due to high winds and we arranged a new venue and line up within an hour and had one of the best events we have ever put on for vibes. 2024 we were back in the Park for the last ever Revival Festival . Later that year for PS26 we bought In Dj Die, Dillinja, Uncle Dugs and Ruffstuff alongside a whole host of mc’s for a massive 26 year anniversary party !
We had taken a little break from events but are now back with some intimate partys at the Social – Maidstone gearing up to the big 30th Anniversary in 2027 !
